Cane Corso

The Cane Corso is a big-boned Italian Mastiff. Historically they were used by the Romans as war dogs. Corsos were also used to herd, hunt, and protect the handler from danger. The Cane Corso are a powerful dog breed that requires a firm, yet loving trainer and owner!
The Caucasian Shepherd

The Caucasian Shepherds have been used for a few thousand years for the protection of the flock and family. They’re often still used as protectors and will fend off predators like wolves and bears. Their thick fur keeps them well insulated from the sub-zero cold, it also acts like armor taking a bear swipe or a wolf’s bite and clogging it up in a large amount of fur before it hits flesh.
Caucasian Shepherds stand thick and tall and are ready for literally anything. If you can’t dedicate time and training every day, then please move on to the next dog. These big guys are best as prison guard dogs, military work and protecting huge properties.
As teddy bear cuddly as the Caucasian Shepherds look, these giants can be a handful at the best of times and deadly at the worst. They’ve even been banned or restricted in some countries, including by their homeland, Russia.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Cavaliers were bred to be lapdogs to keep their owners warm in the drafty carriages and castles, and they’re definitely good at that!
Central Asian Shepherd (the Alabai)

The Central Asian Shepherd or Alabai Dog has a high working capacity, endurance, and are quick to learn their territory They are also proud, quiet, and self-assured, and more importantly, extremely independent.
The Central Asian Shepherd Dog is said to be the oldest known dog in existence dating back 7,000 years according to artifacts in the Russian native lands. They were used to guard the native people’s possessions, against predators, and to help repel invading raiding parties.
This breed much like the Caucasian shepherd has also been banned in a number of countries as well, including their own homeland, Mother Russia. They are mostly used on huge properties, prison work, and also military work.
Carolina Dog

The Carolina dog is a shy and very suspicious dog breed, and they look to you to prove your loyalty and devotion to them. Do this and they’ll become your loving and devoted companion for life.
The Carolina Dog had descended from dogs who accompanied the Palio Indians when they traveled from Asia across Siberia and over the Bering land bridge. You can still find the Carolina dog in the swamps of South Carolina to northern Georgia as wild dogs, you can also find them all the way up in Ohio to as far west as Arizona.
Carpathian Shepherd Dog

Catahoula Leopard dog

Catahoula leopards from Louisiana, were bred for herding and protection. Renowned for their various patterns and color. The Catahoulas need good training and a firm but loving hand to keep them from becoming aggressive to other dogs. However, some of them are quite friendly and docile with people.
We rescued a Catahoula and ended up giving her to friends who said she was the best dog ever and made a great family pet.
Chihuahua

How the Chihuahua came to be is a mystery that time will keep to itself, but are associated with the Toltecs, a pre-Columbian Mesoamerican culture in Mexico, around 900–1521 AD.
While very cute and lovable to their owners, chihuahuas are not known for their friendliness to strangers and often develop attachments within families to certain family members over others. However, their temperament can be improved through proper socialization.
Chinese Crested

This breed goes back so far we can only make assumptions on how the Chinese crested was created. It is thought that large hairless dog breeds were brought from Africa to China and were reduced in size over time from generations of breeding.
In ancient China the Chinese Crested dog quickly became a ship fairing dog that was great at exterminating rats that carried diseases.
Chow Chow

The Chow Chow is an ancient Chinese dog breed with deeply set-back eyes, a large head, a thrust-out chest, and a lion’s mane around its neck. These guys can weigh in at 40-90 pounds and can look quite ferocious. No wonder that they made such good guard dogs.

Corgis are popular for their agreeable temperament. In 1107 King Henry I of Britain invited some weavers from Flanders, (now northern Belgium) to live and work in Southwestern Wales.
The weavers accepted the invitation, bringing with them all of their worldly possessions, including a large dog with short legs that could herd cows and sheep. Those dogs were the forerunners of the Welsh Corgi.
