A Rottie Cross named Asgard and His Loving Full Blood Rottie Sister Ava

By Kaisa Howard

Hi, I was searching through names for a friend, and as I love Nordic/Scandinavian names though I’d suggest her a few. Then I came across your website. I also wanted to share that we rescued a rottie cross and his name is Asgard it matched our already existing rottie girl named Ava. Ava on the right, Asgard on the left. He is a pure gentle giant, my protector, and always by my side.

Thank you for a good read.

Bailey the Labrottie

Images by Kathy Tablizo

Contributed by Kathy Tablizo

Our new labrottie baby is named “Bailey”. She is almost 3 months old and ~10lbs.

[When we read Bailey’s name we asked Kathy if she’d seen the movie A Dog’s Purpose. Here’s her reply].
“We DID see the movie (A Dog’s Purpose) and that’s why my son named her Bailey!”

“We were doing work on the house and our painter told us how his young lab female hadn’t been fixed yet. He lives on a ranch. His neighbor’s rottie sensed that and made a visit! The result was Bailey and her siblings.

It wasn’t a planned event, so the painter was explaining to me how he was going to take them all to the shelter.
We asked if we could see the puppies before he took them……NEVER do that!

~Kathy Tablizo

Well… we’re so GLAD that Kathy and family did go visit those puppies!! Life would not be the same without their Bailey!

Bo the Black Lab Rottweiler Mix!

Images by Jackie Myers!

Hi, My name is Jackie Myers. My husband and I wanted to share a little about our boy, Bo with you and anyone looking for info. Bo is a black Lab and Rott mix. He is now 7 years old and around 125 lbs. He is a big boy. Most people are scared of him when they see him but he isn’t so bad. He was an owner surrender.

It was said that Bo got excited and started running around and ended up plowing straight into a little boy. The owner got scared and sent him to the pound. My husband and I went looking for a dog to add to our family. We got Bo around June of 2015.

The First Meet And Greet With Bo!

Our first meeting with Bo was the initial “yikes he looks mean and kinda scary” but after a few minutes, we fell in love with him. He took to the kids instantly and was just amazing. We have had him now for 5 years. He taught our younger pup, who is a pit/mastiff mix, how to defend the house. He likes to sleep on the bed or couch taking up all of the room.

Head to tail he can take up half of our sectional so on a normal couch it would be the whole thing. He is very well mannered and can do tricks. He is scared of a lot of things like thunder, fireworks, the vacuum. If I tell him to “get it” then he will try to seek out whatever it is I am talking about which is usually a snake, mouse, or spider. He likes to play with those. He can be very defensive of his property. Bo can be surprisingly quiet when digging in the trash or getting on the table. Like most dogs right? He sheds all of the time. All. Of. The. Time! He loves to sit outside on raining or cool days.

Grooming A Labrottie

That coat takes a lot of cleaning. A LOT!  Like my whole tube is destroyed after giving him one bath and he has to have several. He prefers to sleep in front of the front door preventing anyone from coming in or leaving without him knowing. He is still extremely playful when he wants and lazy when he wants but he is always alert. His hips are in bad shape. They kinda pop out of place or are really sore most days.

His ears are always inflamed and we constantly clean them. Otherwise, he is in good health and is a really great addition to our family. We adore Bo and are blessed to have him. As for the reason he was put in the shelter well let’s just say he likes to play chicken and I don’t think he understands his size. He thinks he is a small thing. Bo has plowed all of us over several times. Bo doesn’t mean to. He just doesn’t move from side to side well once his large self gets going. Oh, I forgot to mention he LOVES snow!!!!

He is completely black but will play until he has so much snow on him that you can’t tell his real color! It’s hilarious to watch. So that’s a little bit about Bo. He is the best dog I could ever ask for. We are actually looking for another just like him but haven’t had any luck. He is one of a kind. That’s for reading! Enjoy the pictures!

Brownie the Labweiler

Images by Michael M.

This is Brownie, she is 1.5 years old now and weighs about 75lbs. Some jerk dropped her off at my farm the Saturday after Thanksgiving of 2020. She was just a little puppy then, she is very energetic but doesn’t tear or chew things up in the house.

She works from 6am to dark every day and sleeps in the house all night. She’s good at treeing squirrels in the yard haha. First picture is with my 8 year old Boxer name Harley.

Daphne the 12-year-old! Labrottie:

Images by Ivy!

This is Daphne! And she is a survivor of nasal lymphoma, she is a labrottie and she is an AMAZING 12 year old!

Adopted 10/2009 Daphne was adopted by her mom Ivy in 10/2009! After four years of having her baby Daphne. Daphne was diagnosed with stage 5 nasal lymphoma 3/2013 completed chemo treatments and in remission 9/2013. She was not only in remission but cancer-free in 2016! (YAY! PARTY HATS ON!)

Ivy says that Daphne is “My best friend, she keeps me laughing and goofy right along with her.
I love Daphne aka Daffy with all my heart. Don’t know what life would have been without her

Ivy and her baby live in Houston, Texas. Daff (Daff is Daphne’s nickname) is an inside dog who deserves to be spoiled and appreciated, respected each day of her life.

2-Year-Old Gracie

I have one of these dogs. Her looks are amazing and resemble pictures I have seen. She was a rescue and came from Alabama. The only difference is she is the runt of the litter. She’s almost 2 and only 40 lbs.

Goliath the Rottweiler

This is Goliath! he’ll be 7 years old in May of this year. James Shiflett had him since he was 8 weeks old. He is his best friend, guardian angel, and just everything to him!

Hades Two Years old:

Images by Georgia Gates

This is Hades. He is a two-year-old black lab/Rottweiler mix. He currently is around 72 lbs but has a lot of filling out to do.

We adopted him from the shelter as his family could no longer keep him. Hades loves playing fetch, going for walks, swimming, and taking naps.

He loves children, treats, and the cat as well. He is very trainable but at times is very stubborn, especially when he sees a bunny.

Jade the Labrottie Husky mix!

Images by Stephanie Pandolfo

Hi! This is our sweetie Jade! She was a rescue we got from Rhode home rescue in RI.  Rhode home rescue acquired her from one of the shelters they work with.  She was found wandering the streets of Arkansas as a puppy, she was 16 wks when we took her home.

Then, We did her DNA to get her breed info.  She is a 2 yr old, 65 lb all black with a sprinkling of pure white fur, lap dog who loves everyone including our 8-year-old cat and also our 14 yr old teenage boy!

Jade on Her First Vet Visit

When at her vet visits she clearly thinks she is human. The vet staff thinks she is hysterical.  It took us a while to understand her, she is super vocal when excited and playful. Sounds like growling and yipping.  However, it is not aggressive in nature at all. In fact, we have a video of her funny play behavior. Her best friend is an Australian Shepherd named Bentley.

Overall,  she is a delight! A bit big to be on my lap but I wouldn’t have it any other way 🥰The one negative is, She has separation anxiety and rips oven mitts and chair cushions when stressed 🙄.
So glad you enjoyed the pics 👏
Thanks, Steph

Update on the DNA test!

The RI rescue works with shelter in Arkansas and arranged to have the dogs transported north. Then they have adoption events at local pet stores where you can meet the pups and apply to adopt.
Also, we used the Wisdom Panel DNA. She is officially 50% lab, 25% rottie, 12.5 husky and I don’t think that this is quite accurate because they (the wisdom panel) said she also had 12.5 MALTESE!!!  LOL! So we believe it’s more like 25% husky with no Maltese. 🤣

Thanks Steph!

Koda the Rottie! Images by Karen Jackson

Hi he is a big boy. He weighs 146 lbs and his name is Koda. Momma was full-blooded Rottie and they do not know what Daddy was. He is my sweetheart and such a cuddler.

I have had lots of other dogs and have always thought Rotties were beautiful. He is as beautiful inside as he is outside. He loves everyone. When he meets someone new they are just a friend that he is meeting for the first time.

Lenny the labrottie says “Hi from Hawaii!”

Images by Tina D!

Lenny is an 8-year-old chocolate Lab/Rottweiler mix who has been the most wonderful companion for his new “mom”.  He is an excellent bike partner, Beachcomber, and ocean dipping, partner.

Lenny came from a group of volunteer followers from the rescue (where he lived for 5 years!!), so I have no trouble finding him sitters when I work and go to the mainland.

To read Lenny’s full story of his life, just hit the link!

Lennys update!

At the vet’s advice, Lenny has been “watching his weight.”He gets kibble at breakfast and dinner. For lunch ( yes lunch — so he doesn’t stare at my lunch), he gets romaine lettuce, a big chunk of carrot, or apples (peeled and seeds removed), and a mouthful of chicken breast.

Our daily outings are keeping both of us fit and happy. We are fortunate to have a bike trail along a harbor at the edge of our subdivision,  a sandy beach 5 miles away, or a variety of hiking trails with a stream about 7 miles away. Lenny also utilizes a wonderful “Kama’aina K9 Adventures” dog park where he can go romp with other dogs in a secure dog-friendly environment. Ironically this is located near to where the Horse rescue (that I inherited him from) used to be.

Lenny’s Coat

Lenny’s coat has become alot darker since installing a doggie door and he can be inside or outside. Seems he likes being inside, at least when I’m home. He’s still like my little, (or big!) shadow. He does let me go upstairs alone, having figured out that I have to come back downstairs at some point in time.

The only reason he does go upstairs with me is to get a drink of water from the bathtub faucet. He’ll stand by the tub and wait for me to turn on the faucet. Then he’ll straddle the tub with just his front legs inside and lap up a drink of water from the faucet and back out over the tub to get out.

It is amazing the bond that has developed. Having animals in my childhood,  followed by a long void of such furry creatures, and now established with Sir Lenny, I forgot how much a pet adds to my quality of life.  It is a big responsibility both for time and cost. But Lenny is precious and priceless.

Happy trails and tails! Tina and Lenny

A Rottweiler Pitbull mix named Luna Bear

Images from Elaina Fiene

This is Luna Bear, she is a Pitbull Rottweiler mix, she loves to be outside and wags her tail in excitement at everyone she meets!

Right now she is sitting in the sun watching the squirrels. Her favorite thing to do is play with her big (human) sister Sofie!

Luna Bear just graduated from basic puppy training! Now Elaina is now working on training Luna Bear not to nip humans playfully when she gets excited!

We have a really cool update from Luna Bear, her parents were looking for a trainer to help with her nipping while playing.

She is doing great in her new training class! It’s mostly older dogs so she is the youngest pup! We are currently working on door manners and heeling. I am so proud of her and we love her so much!

Update on miss Luna Bear by Elaina Fiene 3/8/20

She is now 9 months old so I thought I would share another picture!
We went hiking, to the dog park and then the pet store today! I got a new car so we turned the old one into a Luna mobile! She can get as muddy as she wants now!

I was able to weigh her once we got home and she was exhausted. She is 55 lbs! The vet originally said she wouldn’t get over 50. We are so in love with her sweet spunky personality.

Update on Luna Bear 9/28/20

Hi!!! Just wanted to give you an update on Luna Bear! She is such a happy puppy and super high energy but very well trained! Luna loves other dogs and is the star puppy of the local dog parks!! We receive daily compliments on how well behaved she is!!

She has turned the entire family into hikers, campers, and kayakers in just one short year! She loves the outdoors especially water! We are so happy with the progress that we have put in an application to foster another puppy around her age. We hope to be able to use our learning experience with her to help other dogs with her kind of energy to find forever homes!
I hope you are doing well!!!!
Thank you, Elaina Fiene

Update on Luna Bear 8/26/21

Just wanted to share Luna’s DNA results! And some updated pictures! She turned 2 in June and we are currently in agility training. We have so much fun together in class and she is doing great! It’s hard to believe how far she has come and I am so proud of her!
 How is Zeus doing?

Mr. Milo the Labrottie

images by Alta Lee

Mr. Milo is about 5 months old. He enjoys cuddles, his sisters, bath time, and being outside watching the birds. When I first got Milo poor little guy had parvo. He spent a total of two weeks in the vet. And now he’s stronger than ever. Always greets me when I get home from work at the front door

Mr. Pluto

Contribution by Paven

Mr. Pluto is 40 days old, and his weight is around 13.27 lbs. I saw him in a WhatsApp status, so as soon as I saw him, I felt like he was mine. So I bought him the very next day, and he’s into my family!

Rocky The Rottweiler

Images by Dianna R.

I’m in the process of grieving my beautiful almost 4-year-old rottie, Rocky. I agree with your article, however, besides cancer, Rottie’s are prone to have seizures, at least that is what our vet told us. That is how we lost Rocky yesterday. I just wanted to say you were right, they are the most loving breed. Everyone (people I didn’t even know) knew his name and would always say hi to him walking by our yard.

He absolutely loved car rides and walks around the neighborhood. He got along with almost every dog ( he was never the aggressor) he was always friendly meeting other dogs. I also like to note he gave me the one thing no human could ever do… he always made me feel safe and protected. He loved our family and was so good with our children.

Tires on the other hand were another story! Rocky loved chasing tires and chewing them… we had to replace a few of my son’s bike tires lol. But mainly I wanted to say I love my Rottweiler so much and my heart is broken. Good job spreading the word. They are a loving dog breed!

He was a big boy 130 lbs! This is him on his car rides & with his favorite toy! A binky, that picture always makes me laugh because that’s our ferocious guard dog with a binky in his mouth, it was the only toy he didn’t chew apart. But it pretty much summed up his personality..a gentle giant, thank you for listening to my story. Lucky to have had him in my life, even if it was a short time. Image by Dianna R.

The Labrottie Robin

images by Toyo_Tiger

Toyo Tiger: sent photos of his Labrottie, named Robin. Here’s a bit of her story:

My friend had a black lab and every day this big Rottweiler would come over there and bark at their house. So one day their lab ran away and they couldn’t find her for a week. But eventually, she came back and they found out she was pregnant.

We got her for free. Her mother a Black Labrador, her father is the Rottweiler who is also black. When the vet took a look at her they said she had some chocolate lab in her.

Reagon the Labrottie

images by Leslie Frazier

This is Reagan. She is 3-4 months old in these photos. Mom is a Rottweiler and dad is Chocolate Lab. She is an absolute joy. Very very smart but quite a handful! She is FULL of energy and curiosity. She is actually more of a “watchdog” than our pitbull! What an awesome mix. She is also the most cuddly dog I’ve ever had – she is always snuggling up to us to sleep!  I would get another in a heartbeat!.

What a sweetheart! Easy to fall in love with Reagan, a beautiful rottie chocolate lab mix!

Mutual Therapy Dogs for Each Other

Reagan’s grey and white buddy is named Jameson. His owner, Leslie, said that the grey and white Pitbull was rescued from an abusive home and have severe anxiety issues.

Reagan has really helped him come out of his shell and feel a lot more secure. Jameson isn’t nearly as terrified to be left at home now since he’s not alone! Both dogs have been very therapeutic for one another.

Reagan hadn’t had much socialization when we got her – with people or other animals. She has come leaps and bounds following Jamo’s lead! Jamo loves people, just can’t handle being left alone or any type of loud voices/noises. They have both come a very long way since being rescued ❤️
~Leslie Frazier,

Aw… WHAT a sweetheart, Reagan is… safe and secure with his mom!

Roxy is a Rottweiler mix! Roxy’s mother Tammy works at a nearby Petco store where we often take out dogs to get groomed. We never really connected on a personal basis because well we didn’t have a large dog breed. Until Zeus, my Labrottie came about, we arrived for our smaller dogs grooming I took Zeus for some socializing with the other animals. As we stood about talking.

We got to talking about what breed Zeus is, which naturally got us to talking about Tammy’s own dog Roxy a Rottweiler Mix. Tammy knows that Roxy is a Rottweiler she also knows that she is mixed with another breed the problem is that she does not know which one.

Roxy Is a Kind Lovable Rottweiler Mix!

Roxy is a kind, sweet loving Rottweiler mix! Her story, in the beginning, is a tough one! But she makes it through alright and is living in the lap of luxury!
