Best Dog Movies – Our Favorite Fiction – listed alphabetically

Alpha ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ½

An epic coming of age adventure set in the last Ice Age, Alpha reveals the story of the beginning of the incredible bond between humans and dogs, that began with wolves.

We loved this movie and it’s one that stays with you in a hauntingly enriching way, while educating you along the way on the life of our most ancient ancestors. Definitely, a movie to settle in to see.

PREMISE: A young teenage boy and a lone wolf become unlikely allies in survival in harsh circumstances, danger, play, and adventure.

Art of Racing in the Rain ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Creatively told in the first-person as a dog, it’s the story of a devoted dog as in love with racing as his owner. Another moving and heart-wrenching story of the fierce love and loyalty of a very special dog.

Call of the Wild ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We LOVED this film, Call of the Wild. Keep in mind that it’s not always easy. There’s lots of drama and struggles but lots of sweetness and wonder. Rich and phenomenal production, this is a movie worth seeing.

Featuring Harrison Ford in this film based on the classic novel Call of the Wild, this film is a vividly artistic blend of quasi CGI (Computer Generated Image) with real-life actors. It’s a substantial story with humor, drama, sadness, suspense, danger, love, joy, friendship, and triumph… the good, the bad… the sad and glad of the human-animal connection.

PREMISE: Buck is a happy-go-lucky dog, living the height of luxury with his wealthy family when through hook and crook, everything changes. He’s captured and sold, and thus begins his journey to awakening to his inner wolf through adventure and tragedy… kindness and courage.

The film entertains while also painting a historical canvas of the Klondike gold rush of the 1890s Alaskan territories. More than 30,000 people traveled to the Yukon territory area near the convergence of the Klondike and Yukon rivers, just east of Alaska.[1]https://www.britannica.com/topic/The-Call-of-the-Wild

PREMISE: A dog discovers his purpose in life—to help humans laugh and love—over several lifetimes. This concept gives solace to anyone grieving the loss of a pet and either way, it’s a lovely heartfelt story to love.

2nd – Second Movie in the Dog’s Purpose Series

The sequel to A Dog’s Purpose, we loved A Dog’s Journey just as much. With close to 4,000 five stars though two years newer, it seems that everyone agrees.

Megan Leavey ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Megan Leavey was simultaneously heart-wrenching and heartwarming. Relatable misfit, Megan bonds with a military service dog who saves her life, and then she, in turn, works to save him.

Togo ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another magnificent true story of a real-life hero of a dog, Togo was the unsung sled dog most responsible for the successful delivery of the direly needed diphtheria serum in the epidemic of 1925.

It as no doubt a team effort, but Togo and his owner and team of dogs traveled almost four times the distance of the rest of the relay team under the hardest possible of conditions. A must-see for any dog lover.

Turner and Hooch

This movie was a heartwarming, uproariously funny, movie played by Tom Hanks, Beasley, and Igor. Beasley and Igor were the Dogue de Bordeaux, Beasley was the main character while Igor was the stunt dog.

Turner and Hooch was about a small-town detective who was about to go onto the big city. Turner’s (Tom Hanks) friend who is an owner of a junkyard was murdered for seeing something he shouldn’t have. With that Turner unexpectedly inherits the friend’s dog named Hooch a junkyard dog.

What happens next is a story of hilarious incidents, heart-racing action (for that time), true sadness, and finally followed by heartwarming cuteness.

If you love dog movies then you will LOVE Turner and Hooch!
